5 Project Write-Up

 Description: There is a woman who is melting into a very sticky green goo. There are two waves of the goo coming back around, about to enclose on her. The sun and ground contrast with the woman and waves. The woman is bald and she's not wearing any clothing. Also the sky is a dark blue color.
Analysis: There is contrast in color between the goo and the ground. There is rhythm with the highlights in the waves. Movement because your eye will first look at the woman then proceed down her body to the bottom where the puddle of goo connects with the waves which will bring your eye to the top of the painting, then down again with the opposing wave. There is a lot of line work, especially in the waves and ground. If you were to split this piece down the middle, it would be balanced.
Interpretation: This piece was my interpretation of summer. The idea is that its so hot that the woman is melting and then the heat is giving her hallucinations with the trippy colors and the waves coming in to drown her.
Judgement: I actually quite like how this turned out. I didn't exactly have an idea for the background, all I knew was that I wanted to draw a woman melting, which I did. I quite like how she turned out too, I realized too that it so much more fun and interesting to draw people with body fat because if you don't draw the "ideal" body shape that is commercialized then you could create some really interesting people and I like that a lot better than drawing a model-like body.

 Description: There is a guy who is in the middle of whipping his hair back. His shirt is falling off his shoulder. The guy isn't exactly muscular. Also, his hair is half shaved. There is strap on one of his shoulder that could be leading to something like a guitar.
Analysis: Lots of line work such as in the hair and chest areas. There is movement in his hair and there is also texture in his skin. There is accent color in his shirt. Emphasis on the guy because there is almost nothing else around him and he is in the center. Rhythm in the hair with each individual chunk of hair.
Interpretation: This piece was actually inspired by a person, his name is Matty Healy and he is the main singer of a band called The 1975. This is my favorite band so when I was told to do a piece on movement I thought of him because practically if you were to go watch them live, all you would see is Matty spazzing on stage. And what is happening in this piece is that Matty was in the middle of flipping his head around while playing the guitar.
Judgement: I personally like this piece but that could just be because I love Matt Healy. I used charcoal for this and I've never really used it before so for this being the first attempt with creating something with it, I would call it a success.

Description: There's is a cat laying across a sketchbook on a desk. There are posters, lamps, notebooks, and a watercolor palette. The posters are very specific and show a persons taste in pop culture. Also, there are a lot of colors through out the whole piece.
Analysis: There is unity with the whole piece, everything fits together quite smoothly. There is variety with the different shapes and sizes of the posters and with that is actually on the poster. There is emphasis on the desk because it is the biggest object in the piece. There is also a lot of colors, especially the background.
Interpretation: This was my interpretation of the desk personality project. I don't really ever use my desk, its just where I throw all my random crap onto, but my walls are covered in posters and artworks from both myself and others. I thought that my walls fit my personality more than my desk so that is why I drew all the posters. I still wanted to add the desk though, I added the cat because I can relate to the cat laying on the desk. If you've ever owned a cat then you know that they can be the most inconvenient little brats and go and just plop down on your homework or textbook and then you feel bad for moving them so you let them stay there for a bit.
Judgement: This piece isn't bad, it is not my favorite but I do like it. What I don't like about it is that I completely messed up the perspective so the whole thing looks flat. But I do think it does a pretty okay job at representing me, I do like cats their one of my top three favorite animals next to elephants and jellyfish.

Judgement: There are a lot of jellyfish, and there is also a girl. It is underwater and the girl is being tied down by seaweed and lifted by bubbles as if the bubbles were balloons. The girl is red and is wearing purple clothes.
Analysis: There is movement from going from the girl to all the jellyfish in the background that then make your eyes look all over the page. There is emphasis on the girl, she is more centered and her skin color contrasts with the blue water and the light jellyfish. Line is big in this piece especially with all the tentacles on the jellyfish.
Interpretation: There isn't an exact story to what is happening here but I was once told that it kind of is like a fire demon who fell into the water and can't swim so the bubbles are helping her resurface but at the same time the seaweed are holding her down hoping she'll drown. And the jellyfish are there to just add magical feelings and also because I love them.
Judgement: I actually quite enjoy looking at this piece. This was my first real attempt at drawing a human body for a project and I think it turned out pretty good. I really do love the jellyfish, there are so many species in here, there's a moon jellyfish, a spotted jellyfish, a box jellyfish, a Portuguese Man of War...

Description: There's a contortionist doing a pose in the middle. Behind her is a Leo sign. There are also two Lion's mane jellyfish swimming around her. There is a lot of color in this piece and also some contrast between warm and cool colors.
Analysis: Movement is a big principle in this artwork because everything goes in a circular motion, it's like you can almost see the jellyfish slowly circling the contortionist. There is contrast with the colors like the blue and the orange, cool and warm. There is also emphasis on the woman in the middle because she is center and her color scheme sticks out as it is darker than the rest of the colors in this piece. There is defiantly balance in the piece, if you were to split this page down the middle, there would be symmetry.
Interpretation: This piece is all based on the astronomical sign, Leo. It's very ironic in my opinion because the Leo is the lion and the jellyfish that are circling the woman are Lion's Mane jellyfish so that was ironic. I also did a lot of warm colors because Leo is a fire sign and also the sun.
Judgement: I adore this piece a lot. I am really happy with how it turned out, I thought that the contortionist turned out fabulous and I love the irony in the piece because I get why it is ironic yet no one else does so it is like my own inside joke in a way.
