Description: This is a color pencil drawing of the elements that make up the Creeping Bellflower. There is a lot of color in this drawing, I really tried to bring out the value in the flowers and make the color pop off the grey-toned paper. I also added little notes all around the drawings which are just facts about the plant.
Analysis: A big principle in this piece is variety. There is variety within all the different parts of the piece but in the end they all come together, forming unity. Also there is emphasis on the pink flowers because they are bigger than everything else and there is also more detail in these flowers versus all the other components.
Interpretation: So this piece was my interpretation of a page from a field journal. I wanted to capture the aesthetic that field journals have, that is why I added all the notes around. That is also why I added the other components inside of just focusing on the main flowers, I felt that if I truly wanted it to seem like a field journal I need to add more components of the plant other than the flowers.
Judgement: I have mixed feelings about this drawing. I quite like the way the pink flowers came out but that is all I really like about this piece. I don't exactly mind how all the other drawings turned out I just feel like, they are not as up there as the pink flowers are. I also don't like at all how the writing came out, it just looks like blah to me. If I were to redo this I would probably just focus on the pink flowers even though it would take away from the feeling of it being a field journal. I would also probably either skip the writing in general or find a different way to do the notes because the method I used didn't turn out as I wanted it to.
