The Sad Pond

Description: This is a watercolor painting I did of a pond. I was really trying to bring out that value that water gives but I still think it looks a little flat and not like it has depth. I used a lot of different shades of blue in this and even some white for highlights in the glare the lights reflects off water.
Analysis: I believe that a prominent principle in this piece is movement. I tried to make the water look like it isn't completely still and there is movement going on throughout the water. There are many different colors which makes the viewer look around at the painting looking at all the different shades and colors.
Interpretation: I was really inspired by Monet and his paintings of ponds. I really tried to capture the glare of light and get the color mixing just right. I think I used too blue of colors, because honestly, ponds are not that blue. I really wish the painting didn't look so flat, that would be something I'd try to fix if I were to redo this piece.
Judgement: There are things I like about this piece and then things I don't like about this piece. Even though the colors aren't exactly accurate, I really like all the different shades of blue in there, I think i adds a nice texture to the piece. I was not a fan of the way the lily pads turned out, I just don't think they turned out nearly as well as they did in my rough draft of the piece. And as I have mentioned before a couple times, I'm really disappointed on how flat the painting turned out, but that now allows me to keep that in mind if I ever do something like this again.
